In 2009, Sean was awarded a Woodrow Wilson Mellon Mays University Fellows Travel and Research Grant for travel to Providencia, Colombia. While there, he interviewed distant relatives, researched his ancestral genealogy, wrote poetry, and traveled around the beautiful island.
